Variation in penicillin resistance in single-cell cultures of Staphylococcus aureus.
نویسنده
چکیده
Using staphylococci grown from single-cell isolations made at various stages of selection on penicillin media, it was observed that the 18 hr. progeny show variations in penicillin sensitivity, as tested by increase in resistance. The range of variation is about the same at any stage in selection; variation appears to be continuous in any one population of the microbes, since the number showing increased resistance depends upon the closeness of the steps in penicillin concentration used in testing the resistance.

Determination of hemolysine genes frequency in antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from wound and urine samples of patients
Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacterium that can target host cell membranes with virulence factors such as toxins and peptides. This study was evaluated the frequency of alpha, beta, and delta hemolysine genes in antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from patients' urine and wound samples. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 100 a...

ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains have become a problem in treatment of infections caused by S. aureus. This study aimed to evaluate antibiotic resistance in S. aureus isolates from raw milk and detect femA gene in these isolates, as a confirmatory test for identification of S. aureus species. ...
متن کاملThe Prevalenceof Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Staphylococcus Aureus Isolated from Nasal Carriage of Surgical Ward’s Staff in ShahidrajaeeHospitalofTonekabon,Iran
Abstract Background and Objective:Staphylococcusaureus is one of the important factors causing nosocomial infections. Typically 25-30 percent of healthy people carry the bacteria in their anterior nasal cavity. The physicians(50%), nurses (70%) and hospital staff (90%) are the carriers of this bacteria, leading to the infection of inpatients. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant Staphylococ...
متن کاملLow-affinity penicillin-binding protein associated with beta-lactam resistance in Staphylococcus aureus.
Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus has been associated with alterations in the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). An intriguing property of all methicillin-resistant staphylococci is the dependence of resistance on the pH value of the growth medium. Growth of such bacteria at pH 5.2 completely suppressed the expression of methicillin resistance. We have examined the PBP patterns o...
متن کاملPCR-mediated identification of Methicillin and Vancomycin resistant genes in Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from the nasal cavity
Staphylococcus aureus is colonized in the human nasal cavity and would contaminate hospital and therapeutic environments. This bacterium has a genetic diversity in terms of resistance to antimicrobial agents. Therefore, the purpose of this study was identificatied of Methicillin and Vancomycin resistant genes in Staphylococcus aureus strains which has been isolated from the nasal cavity. 189 pa...
